Tennis Returns With A 10-Week Tournament

Tennis is back with a 10-week doubles tournament. Canowindra Tennis Club President Kylie Pull said players have been eagerly anticipating the sports’ return. “It’s fantastic to be able to play again. I’m very excited that we can start again, and really really looking forward to getting back on the court,” she said.

“It’s such a social thing. People are also looking forward to that too.” There is an increase in numbers, with 18 teams playing in the competition, which will run until December. “There are many new teams this year, which is great to see,” Kylie said. Tennis NSW advised on Monday that:

• Every person aged 16 years or older must be fully vaccinated to participate in tennis activities in groups of 3 to 20 people;
• Any unvaccinated players are limited to singles play only.
• Sport and exercise in groups is limited to a maximum of 20 people, regardless of age;
• Masks are no longer required in outdoor areas.

“For members of our regional tennis community, we understand that this change represents an increase in restrictions from what you have been experiencing over recent weeks” the body acknowledged in a statement.

She said the Club is very mindful of the NSW Health rules regarding playing community sport while COVID-19 is an issue in the state community. “We have a COVID-safe plan. Players need to be double vaccinated to take part,” Kylie said.

All players need to provide evidence of their double vaccination status tonight.

The Club will run another competition after Christmas, early next year.

While the competition until December is one night a week, next year’s competitions may be back to two nights each week, with games on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Anyone interested in registering as a substitute player can contact Kylie on 0427 618 340.
