Canowindra High School students return for their last term of 2021.
Canowindra High School Principal Neryle Smurthwaite hopes Term 4 can provide as much regularity as possible for her students after the disruptions last term.
Mindful of NSW Government restrictions, Year 6 students will transition to Year 7, some form of presentation night will occur and Prefects will be announced. All major year excursions have been cancelled, however.
“The aim is to try to make school feel as normal as possible,” Ms Smurthwaite said.
In the lead up to the Higher School’s Certificate (HSC), Year 12 students are encouraged to come back to school for time-tabled lessons.
The Principal said it’s to help go over subjects where there may be gaps, and give HSC students as much assistance as possible. 80% of Year 12 students attended on Tuesday.
“Apart from the unavoidable restrictions of lockdown, we’ve had a fairly regular year. We’ve still done major reporting and maintained timetables. We’ve tried to keep life as engaging as possible,” Ms Smurth-waite said.
Last term was very challenging for teachers. She said they did an amazing job keeping up with everything demanded of them. “Teachers weren’t on site. We had two casual staff here with the students at school. They did a tremendous job,” she said.
“The students, teachers and parents have done an amazing job to keep learning still happening.”
Ms Smurthwaite hopes this term will be similar to terms 1 and 2, without the disruptions of term 3.
