Steve Brooks Retires To Live The Good Life

9 September, 2021 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

While mechanic Steve Brooks has retired, he still loves Canowindra.

Steve Brooks has lived in Canowindra for about 10 years, moving here from Orange.

Steve said he loves the community aspect, as well as the stories people tell.

“I grew up in a small town and understand a small town,” he said.

He’s been a mechanic for 40 years, mostly small motors with a short stint as a motorcycle mechanic. The doors of Brooks Small Engines are now closed for good.

He’s always had a love for tinkering.“I have always had a thing for metal and mechanical machines. When I was a primary schoolboy, my mother washed the clothes and forgot to check my pockets. There always was metal in them and it punctured the rollers on the wringer wash machine,” Steve said.

“Being given a challenge and bringing a machine back from the brink, thus surprising people with it starting relatively easily,” gives him a thrill.

In retiring, Steve wants to do things for himself, without deadlines. He has a lot of new small engine parts for sale to a mechanic starting a business.

Now he’s closed Brooks Small Engines, he wants to: “learn some new skills from YouTube at my leisure and ride my motorcycle with mates, exploring new roads. See my grandkids.”

“To all my customers, thanks for your custom and to my suppliers, thanks for your help,” Steve added.
