Meals On Wheels is an important organisation within our community.
Meals On Wheels (MOW) has been operating for 70 years.
It has grown into a service that now caters hot meals as well as frozen ones to keep on standby for those over 65, or for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders aged 50, who have My Aged Care approval.
Along with these residents, anyone can access meals with them at an unsubsidised rate.
The ongoing COVID-19 lockdown and pandemic poses concerns for those who are at risk of social isolation at the best of times.
The opportunity is there to nominate people who could utilise the service.
It is common for MOW volunteers or staff delivering meals to be the only person a client sees in a day. MOW monitors and responds to the changing conditions in the physical and mental state of clients.
“Over time, those receiving meals often build up a rapport with staff and volunteers and look forward to the visit. The threat of COVID in our area combined with travel restrictions means that families are unable to physically visit and check in on their elderly loved ones,” said Cabonne Council Home & Community Care Coordinator, Coady-Ella Watson.
“Those having difficulty getting to the shops to get ingredients or cannot put a nutritious meal together themselves or whose family are unable to assist with meal preparation due to lockdown may benefit from accessing Meals on Wheels with us.”
There is a selection of over 80 frozen meals, sweets and soups in stock to order and have delivered once a week in town or can be picked up from their office at 70 Gaskill Street.
People interested in accessing meals for themselves or for a loved one can contact Cabonne Council’s Home and Community Care office on 6344 1199, or email us at hacc@cabonne.nsw.gov.au.
