Australia Day Awards Nominations Open: The Cabonne Council 2022 Australia Day Awards nominations are now open to community members who are Australian citizens and who have made a noteworthy contribution or achieved something outstanding in their work, studies or community service during the current year or over a number of years.
The three categories for the Canowindra celebrations are: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Group of the Year.
In addition, one recipient (individual or group) for the entire Cabonne region can be nominated for the Cabonne Environmental Champion of Year and Sportsperson of the Year.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, nominations will be taken online only. Nominations close October 10, 2021.
Legacy Week: For almost 100 years, Legacy has kept the promise to thousands of veterans’ families – helping provide financial and social support for those in their care during times of hardship and grief. Legacy has 44 clubs, with a dedicated footprint of over 300 locations across Australia. Support the charity during Legacy Week which runs until Saturday.
This year focuses on Little Badge: Big Impact – the notion that even the smallest of donations will have a real and heart-warming impact on our veterans’ families.
Last year’s face to face fundraising activities were severely impacted across the nation, and we face the struggle again this year of the majority of clubs not being able to fundraise in the streets. However, the community can still show their support by making an online donation to Legacy or purchasing Legacy merchandise including our iconic badges and teddy bears via the online store.
Post lockdown return to school: All students will return to school for face-to-face learning in term four.
The COVIDsafe, NSW Health-approved rules state all students, no matter if attending an independent school, will go back in a staggered return.
It will take place in this order:
• Kindergarten and Year 1: from 25 October
• Year 2, 6 and 11: from 1 November
• Year 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10: from 8 November
Year 12 students are already able to return in a limited way and this will continue for the remainder of term 3. From 25 October, Year 12 students will have full-time access to school and contact with their teachers.
