Year 12 Candowindra students are preparing for their trial HSC exams.
Trial Higher Schools’ Certificate (HSC) commences throughout the state next week, amid government pressure regarding allowances for students.
The NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) has announced the ongoing COV-ID-19 pandemic in Sydney will impact the running of the actual HSC exams.
Canowindra High School’s Year 12 students begin their trial exams later than others in the region, on Monday, August 16. The trial HSC exams run for a week.
The School’s Principal, Neryle Smurth-waite said a lot of study has taken place in preparation.
“Our students have been working hard towards what is, for most, their final school-based assessment,” she said.
“The school has continued to operate under Departmental and NESA guidelines with all necessary COVID-19 requirements in place.”
The first subjects are English and Mathematics, with electives to follow.
HSC project deadlines have been set back a fortnight given the ongoing COVID-19 situation in Greater Sydney.
These changes mean all students have some additional time to prepare for exams or complete their projects and still receive their results this year.
NESA chief executive officer, Paul Martin said this was about being flexible in unprecedented times and putting the mental and physical wellbeing of students first.
“We want students, their families and their teachers to be assured that despite disruptions, the hard work of students will be recognised,” Mr Martin said.
“Students will have the opportunity to receive a HSC and move on to the next chapter of their lives.”
