IMAGE: The Cowra M&D Society is currently casting for its next show, “Ladies In Black”, to be staged in November.
Cowra Musical and Dramatic Society has two spots left to complete the cast for their upcoming musical performance ‘Ladies in Black’.
Most of the roles have been cast and rehearsals are underway. The completed cast can confirm the performance will go ahead at the Cowra Civic Centre in November.
“All the female roles have been cast, we just need two men and we’re set to stage this wonderful Australian musical,” said Society President, Lawrance Ryan.
“We need one managed 30 to 40 to play Rudi, a charming and irrepressible Hungarian refugee searching for an Australian wife and another aged 50 to 65 to play Stephan, an ebullient Hungarian intellectual and bon vivant who is husband of one of the female leads Magda.”
Set in 1950s Sydney, ‘Ladies in Black’ tells the story of bookish school leaver Lisa, who joins the staff of a fashionable department store while she waits for exam results.
This summer that changes her life, she befriends the ladies of the women’s clothing department. Some are typically Australian, but exotic Hungarian Magda and her husband Stephan introduce her to the world of high fashion and European culture.
The show is based on the 1993 novel The Women in Black, by Madeleine St John.
Rehearsals are at the Cowra Senior Citizen’s Rooms in Railway Lane each Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7.30pm and on alternate Sunday afternoons from 2pm.
Performers from outside the Cowra area are most welcome, with options in the rehearsal schedule to suit availability.
