Canowindra Marches Forward

1 July, 2021 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The Canowindra Business Chamber and Progress Association (CBCPA) hosted Cabonne Council at their June Members’ Forum recently. The meeting was open to the general public and discussion centred around the progress of the Town Master Plan and the Canowindra Improvement Fund.

Cabonne Council was represented by Mayor Kevin Beatty, General Manager Bradley Byrnes, Deputy General Manager Heather Nicholls and Councillors Jenny Weaver, Kevin Walker and Rebecca Johnson, with apologies from local Councillor Cheryl Newsom. CBCPA representatives included six general members and six management committee members. The community was represented by two public attendees.

Council members discussed the Canowindra Improvement fund, which is currently $1.7 million and growing at $240K per year, and is available for town beautification, Council infrastructure improvements and possibly some community directed projects. There was some discussion on improvements to the Age of Fishes Museum which could be funded 50/50 with NSW Government grants, but this was not confirmed.

Meanwhile, regarding the Master Plan, Swinging Bridge and main street footpaths have been earmarked for development and are awaiting confirmation of funding from NSW Government funds. Further, all associations within the Cabonne region could access grant funding directly if they are incorporated bodies.

Other topics for discussion included animal handling and rangers, early childhood and after school care for families (three to five years), the museum and railway precinct area and Cabonne Council’s renewables action plan to become off-grid, with a proposal to install a 2.4MW battery at Eugowra.
