Montrose House

13 May, 2021 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Hello readers and welcome to this month’s column!

Goodness me, hasn’t the town been busy the last couple of weeks? I want to wel-come Chris and Nerida from Perennialle Plants and Melissa from Melissa Barber Galleries to our beautiful main street. We only have one shop left to fill— amazing how thriving our community is!

The Balloon Challenge was a huge success and as patron, I am very proud of what the town achieved over the week. We had beautiful weather the whole week and the balloonists were thrilled. I hosted and paid for a cocktail party on the Thursday night to welcome the balloonists to town and they were really happy with that. They felt welcome and we had a full house and great night!

My street parade on Saturday morning was a huge success, with over 3,000 people in attendance. Three months of planning and hard work came together in a wonderful display of dancers, music, balloon trucks, antique cars and tractors, a Ben Hall re-enactment and more. Saturday night, 7,500 people attended the Balloon Glow. It was great and people stayed and spent money in our beautiful town.

Then, I had a full day Sunday cleaning up the local cemetery for Mother’s Day with a small crew of friends, with the Lions Club providing a barbeque. The place looked immaculate! Big thanks to Darryl and crew from the Lions Club and our volunteers.

I had two days rest and was back into it again, cleaning up at the showground for the Tractor Trek where the Lions operated a barbeque stall for the whole 24 hours.

On Mother’s Day, I hosted a dinner for the ballroom dancers at Montrose House. It was an elegant night and I presented all the ladies with a pot of chrysanthemums each for Mother’s Day.

Next week, Carol Cosgrove and crew will be arriving for a Canowindra High School reunion.

Take care look after yourselves and happy Mother’s Day for last Sunday!

Tommy x
