CPS Going Swimmingly Well

22 April, 2021 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Canowindra Public School students ready to run in their cross country carnival on Tuesday.

At the end of last term, six fabulous swimmers from Canowindra Public School went off to Sydney to compete in the PSSA Swimming Championship at the Sydney Olympic Aquatic Centre at Homebush. They were competing against the best swimmers in NSW and all performed very well. Our junior girls relay team consisting of Ava Thornberry, Haylee Stanbury, Claire Pengilly and Lucy Neville came 8th in state, which is a huge effort and a great achievement, considering their training regime only occurs during the summer months. Well done everyone!

Term two started on Monday. All students and staff were very happy to be back at school. Week one started with a flurry of activity. Cross country was held on Tuesday. Primary students competed at the showground and the golf course track. The two and three kilometre courses were run by all students and the top six from each age group progressed to the district cross country carnival, which will be held at Canowindra in a few weeks’ time. Infants students also got to run a modified version back at school which provided lots of fun for all involved.

Year six head off to Canobolas Scout Camp on Thursday and Friday to complete their peer support training, in readiness for peer support to start with the whole school next week. Students work together and develop their relationships with one another and are exposed to leadership skills which they can implement with their groups back at school. The students also love the camp as they get to call their teachers by their first names.

During the holidays, CPS was visited by volunteer group The Big Lift from UTS. They spent the weekend in Canowindra and stayed in our hall and volunteered their time at our school on Saturday and Sunday. Thanks again UTS! We look forward to seeing you another time.
