Our Gal – Bonnie Keyes

22 April, 2021 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

How long have you lived in or around Canowindra and what is the best thing about living here? I grew up in Cowra and moved away in 2016 to attend Charles Sturt University in Wagga to study a Bachelor of Social Work, before moving back to Cowra at the end of last year. I love being back with my family and the friendly community.

Where do you work or what do you do currently and what do you enjoy about it? I am the Student Support Officer at Canowindra High School. I enjoy working closely with the students to ensure positive and healthy mental health and wellbeing.

How are you involved in the Canowindra community? Working at Canowindra High School as the student support officer allows me to work closely with external agencies to create career pathways for students. A strong focus of mine will be community partnerships.

What is your favourite thing to do when you have free time? Spending time with my family and friends or playing netball.

What makes you proud? When I began my Bachelor of Social Work, I always wanted to be in a school and I did not give up until I got there.

If you could be an animal which one would you choose and why? A monkey. They are cute and funny!

Tell us about your best holiday ever? Volunteering at an orphanage in Cambodia.

What makes your day? Watching the students at school achieve their goals and succeed in what they do.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself? I am a thrill seeker – I have been on the sling shot ride 10 times.
