Help Available For Flood Planning At SES

18 March, 2021 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The New South Wales State Emergency Service (NSW SES) will be conducting a community meeting in Canowindra on Tuesday, 23 March at 6:30pm.

The meeting is designed to inform the Canowindra community of its flood preparedness and provide assistance for residents and business owners about flood planning. NSW SES Deputy Zone Commander for the Central West, Inspector Brigid Rice, said the NSW SES was focused on the Canowindra business community.

“Segments of the Canowindra community can be impacted by flooding on the Belubula River,” Inspector Rice noted. “We are asking business owners to join us at the Canowindra Services Club, next Tuesday evening to understand their flood risk and work with the NSW SES to prepare a flood plan for their business.”

The Canowindra SES Unit is also actively recruiting in the month of March, looking for new locals to join its team, support the community and commence training in April 2021.

“If you would like to give back to your community, get nationally recognised training and help people when they are in need, you are invited to attend the community meeting on 23 March and find out how you can be a part of the team in our ‘See Yourself in Orange’ campaign with the NSW SES,” she added.

“We are the lead agency for floods and storms in Western NSW. We manage responses to these emergencies and help communities prepare through planning and education.”

NSW SES volunteers come from all walks of life, bringing with them many different skills, interests and backgrounds. They are united by the purpose of supporting their communities in times of need. Training pathways include, JobReady, Storm and Water Damage, Chainsaw Flood Rescue and many more. For more information, visit www.ses.nsw.gov.au/volunteer
