Our Gal – Zoe Smith

17 December, 2020 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

How long have you lived in or around Canowindra and what is the best thing about living here? I have lived here for only 2 years but it feels like home. I love the size of the town, the beautiful landscape and the lovely people really remind me of Picton where I grew up.

Where do you work or what do you do currently and what do you enjoy about it? I have just started working at the Canowindra Phoenix! I love the job as it helps me connect with the community and the eight minute commute to work is ideal!

What is your favourite thing to do when you have free time? Gardening and spending time with animals.

What makes you proud? Overcoming difficulties – like keeping my garden alive during hot dry times!

If you could be an animal which one would you choose and why? An elephant. I admire their cooling systems – great flapping ears and long trunks – something I wish I had for Canowindra summers.

What is on your bucket list? I would love to see more of Australia, New Zealand and the world – by train.

What are you really good at? Learning new skills and laughing at myself. Sometimes both at the same time.

Tell us about your best holiday ever? Last year I stayed in a treehouse in the jungle, and on a remote island in Thailand. I loved the culture, people, food, natural environment and the climate.

What makes your day? When my kids call me for no particular reason – just to catch up.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself? I have a Buddhist outlook and practice. I’m not a “great” Buddhist, I’m not vegetarian and I don’t meditate daily but I do my best to live by compassionate principals. “Live and let live” is a phrase that sums it up best.
