Local School Captain Speaks To Parliament

10 December, 2020 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Last Thursday 3rd December, Andrew Gee the Federal Member for Calare took to Parliament to represent his constituents with a speech written by Canowindra High School Captain Claire Wright. For the past year, Claire has been mentored by Andrew Gee through the TEN4TEN Leadership Dialogue program run by Regional Development Australia Central West, gaining insight into his roles as a Federal Member and hearing advice for her future.

Claire’s speech highlighted her local community and the people she admires. Special mention was given to Mrs Coutanche for running the Duke of Edinburgh Award which Claire completed and to her year advisor Mrs Balcombe whom she admires greatly.

Andrew Gee delivered the well written speech with finesse, ending it with his own words noting, “Claire is a young champion of her local community and country. I have no doubt that she will go on to do great things in life for both Canowindra and our nation. I have been mentoring Claire this year through Regional Development Australia Central West’s TEN4TEN Program and I have been very impressed with the example she sets for others. One of Claire’s goals in life is to study science to help farmers with sustainability practises on their land. She is Canowindra High’s girls captain for 2021 and is part of the next generation of inspiring country leaders. Well done Claire!”

The Canowindra High School community thanks Claire for representing the school so outstandingly well. A spokesperson from the school added, “Everyone at Canowindra High has no doubt that Claire will go on to big things.”
