Year 6 and Year 5 students at Canowindra Public School ready to run in the Monster Marathon.
The annual Monster Marathon was held at Canowindra Public School on Friday 4th September 2020.
The aim of the Monster Marathon is to measure out a one kilometre track around the school and to have someone from the school on that track at all times from 9am until the bell rings at 3pm.
It is a fun day for all of Year 6 and any Year 5’s who have to share a class with Year 6.
Canowindra Public School emphasise being active together, so students set a goal and then walk or run to reach that goal on the day.
The Monster Marathon is a fundraiser as students can collect sponsorship money for how many kilometres they can complete in the day. The money raised is used by Year 6 to give a gift back to the school at the end of the year.
This year the Monster Marathon runners and walkers reached the grand total of 1,183 km with many students able to go well beyond their goals.
Most students managed more than 10km, with some of our students actually running as much as a marathon. Jack Smyth set a new school record running 44km during the 6 hour time slot and Marcus Wythes ran 37km on the day, also an amazing effort.
“We are extremely proud of the effort they all put in. We all went home a little tired and sore (some of us more than others) but pleased with what we achieved,” said Ms Laurie.
