With the celebration of 2020 Education Week, it is timely to look back to Education Week in 1967 when teacher, Mae Vanderschaar’s local history class from Canowindra Central School arranged a display in the former banking chambers of what was then the CBC manager’s residence in Suttor St.
This led to the formation of the Canowindra Historical Society later that year with Dorothy Balcomb as President, Mae Vanderschaar as Secretary, Mim Loomes as Publicity Officer and bank manager Glenn Weiss as Treasurer. Other members of the history class not pictured were Sue Wilcox, Anne Street, Diane Smith, Pam Riach, Julie McCarron and David Boardman.
Sadly, Mae Vanderschaar died at Bowral on 21st June 2020 aged 92.
