Two years ago the CWA Branch of Canowindra started two collection bins for the recycling of soft plastics for the Canowindra community to use.
The bins, located at the Foodworks store and HACC office in Gaskill St have been utilised very well by community members however the collection service will stop on Monday 1st June 2020.
The main reason the service will stop is that the market for the recycled plastics has changed and until there is a new market for the plastic it will no longer be collected locally.
Volunteers from the Canowindra CWA branch used to empty these bins and take them to Orange to be recycled into outdoor furniture. This free and unpaid service to the Canowindra community has been very successful and the CWA volunteers thank the community for their support. The last collection of soft plastics at Foodworks Canowindra will be on Monday 1st June 2020, when the bins will be removed.
After that time the CWA are urging people to take their soft plastics to the REDCYCLE bins at Coles and Woolworths supermarkets in Orange and Cowra. Soft plastics that can be recycled include: bread bags, biscuit packet wrappers, paper goods packaging, pasta and rice bags, frozen vegie bags, plastic bags, cereal box liners and old green bags. It’s soft plastic if it can be scrunched into a ball.
