Canowindra winemaker Steve Mobbs has been named as one of the top 50 in this year’s Young Gun of Wine Awards. Now in its 14th year, the Young Gun of Wine Awards shines a light on Australia’s best young wine labels and winemakers.
Steve Mobbs heads up Canowindra’s Wallington Wines, overseeing the organic farming and winemaking as well as creating his own experimental blends using Wallington fruit, which appear under his Dreaded Friend label.
While the biodynamic Wallington Wines are a classic expression of the Canowindra Wine Region, Dreaded Friend takes the same fruit and spins it in a more experimental direction, with a cabernet franc and grenache currently available under the label.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be selected in the top 50 for this year’s Young Gun of Wine Competition,” said winemaker Steve Mobbs.
“With only 6 winemakers from NSW being selected it’s a privilege and honour to be among some other great talents. I have put my heart and soul into making wine in the region and it’s fantastic to be recognised for all the effort that I have put in. I am proud to be part of this region making small-batch organic and biodynamic wines. This award gives me confidence that we’re on the right track making engaging, high-quality wines,” said Steve.
There will be several free virtual tasting events held throughout the month of May hosted by the top 50 winemakers along with expert guests.
