OAM For Canowindra’s Tommy Jeffs

30 January, 2020 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Medal of the Order of Australia recipient Tommy Jeffs.

Canowindra’s very own Tommy Jeffs has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia, named in the Australia Day honours list for 2020 for his services to the hospitality industry.

“Over the past 50 years I’ve raised $1.2million for charities in Cowra, Canowindra, Orange and Port Macquarie, $300,000 of that has been raised in and around Cowra and Canowindra,” said Tommy.

“Tallulah” Tommy’s drag queen alter ego has been responsible for raising a lot of this money.

Tommy was very excited to let the Phoenix know when he found out about the award back in December.

Tommy has been a real boost for Canowindra, first taking over the Deli Lama Café and more recently running Montrose House in Gaskill St as a function venue and B&B.

Mr Jeffs has been heavily involved in fundraising for the Canowindra Tigers, Canowindra Pre-School Kindergarten Inc and The Gooloogong Log Cabin over the years and is currently in the process of applying for a grant to get the Canowindra silos painted.

Well done to Tommy on a very well deserved medal, you are an asset to our town!
