Six weeks before Christmas Elzette Connan and Tracey Potts came up with an idea and started the Ladies of the Land Facebook page calling for people to donate pamper packs consisting of goodies in a shoebox for women living in drought affected areas. The idea came about after Elzette received a box of goodies from a friend in WA saying I hope this brightens your day.
“With just six weeks until Christmas we aimed for 100 boxes, we thought if we get that we will be lucky,” Elzette said.
When local Canowindra resident Tommy Jeffs heard about the initiative he jumped on board and nominated the Canowindra Phoenix as a drop off point for the pamper packs.
The Phoenix has been overwhelmed with the donations and counted a total of 40 pamper packs that have been donated from local residents.
The CWA Canowindra Branch and the Women’s Bowls group will now distribute these pamper packs to Ladies of the Land in need.
The local residents who have donated these packs should be commended to know that they will bring hope to those doing it tough this Christmas.
“A lot of people are spending their money on buying water or stock feed during the drought, these pamper packs will brighten their day,” said Betty Jenkins Canowindra CWA Branch President.
The Canowindra CWA Branch has also delivered 50 pamper packs to local residents, these packs were donated from a Sydney Council.
