Christmas Shopping Evening A Standout Success

28 November, 2019 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Zoe and Harry Maynard found Tommy Jeffs and Santa Claus outside Montrose House on Saturday afternoon.

The Canowindra Christmas Shopping evening held last Saturday was very well supported by both the local retailers and residents plus there was also a good presence of visitors to the Village.

“We were all very excited about the Christmas Shopping evening and it really was a standout success,” said Arthur Falconer, President of the Canowindra Business and Progress Association.

Gaskill St businesses stayed open for the evening, small pop up market stalls also lined the street and live music was played at The Old Vic Inn. Santa Claus was also seen arriving on a motorbike and greeted the children who were out shopping with their families.

Participating retailers gave out tickets to those who spent over $10 in their store. With almost 2,000 tickets in the barrel the Canowindra Business and Progress Association can confidently say well over $20,000 was spent in town over the two days.

1st prize of a $300 shopping voucher went to Graham Purves, 2nd prize of a $200 shopping voucher went to Kerry Wallace, 3rd prize of a $100 shopping voucher went to Lindsay Penson, 4th prize of a $20 shopping voucher to be spent at Class & Glass went to Sabrina Bisinelli, 5th prize of a $20 shopping voucher to be spent at The Blue Bowerbird went to Liz Sheehan.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes were kindly sponsored by Cabonne Council with 4th and 5th prizes donated by the respective retailers.

The winners have until the end of January to spend their prizes at the various participating retailers.

“We promise next year will be bigger and better thanks to the commitment of the as- sociation members. Thanks to everyone. Go Canowindra,” said Arthur Falconer.

If you still need to do some more Christmas shopping remember to always shop locally first and #BuyFromTheBush this Christmas.
