Open Gardens Day A Huge Success

31 October, 2019 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The weather was perfect and the gardens were truly blooming at the Canowindra High School P&C Open Garden Day fundraiser event in Canowindra last Saturday.

Another successful Canowindra High School P&C Open Gardens Day was held on Saturday October 26. This year’s event saw six homes in Canowindra opening their gardens, showcasing a wide range of different plants and flowers.

To complement the gardens, stalls showcasing the work of skilled students were also on display. These included art displays, wood and metal works, live music, plantings from the agricultural students as well as coffee, drinks and preserves from the Food Technology students.

Event organiser and Canowindra High School P&C President Bronwin Lay thanked everyone who helped make the event possible. “Thank you to the dedicated staff who gave up their Saturday to exhibit and sell the works of our talented students,” she said.

“To all the parents and grandparents who volunteered to be a helper at the gardens, assist with the food serving and preparation, made home baking for the morning teas, created the beautiful flower arrangements or helped in any way, we are extremely appreciative of your efforts and time.”

She also thanked all sponsors of the event for their support, as well as Eureka Plants, Perennial Plants and Rosnay Organic Wines, who also opened their doors to complement the garden day.

“I would also like to give a big ‘thank you’ to the wonderful garden owners who lovingly tended their gardens in drought conditions to provide a fabulous display for Saturday. These were Joan and Herbie Brenninger, Janeen & Dugald Wright, Jenna and Chris Prest, Bev and Peter Taylor, Cassie and Scott Bennett and Mark and Anne Ward,” she said.
