Something For Everyone At Canowindra Show!

3 October, 2019 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Anna McNamara (far left) was crowned Canowindra Showgirl for 2019 alongside Bridie O’Connor (second from right in front row) as Junior Showgirl

The crowds were delighted with the Canowindra Show this year with a number of new events entertaining locals on Friday night and all day Saturday.

The Beaut Ute Competition was a huge success with lots of noise and smoke on Friday night with Reg Watt and his gopher even taking part in the sled pulling. A spectacular display of fireworks then lit up the Canowindra sky to the delights of the crowd.

The dodgem cars were back in 2019 along with crowd favourites the cha cha and mu-sic trip, there was even a mini ferris wheel which the children loved!

The Dog High Jump was a huge success on Saturday with Dusty, Jack and Kiwi win-ning with a jump of 2.30m. The Esky Derby was a good old laugh with Greg Hamilton taking out the win against Nick Daly.

Anna McNamara was crowned Miss Canowindra Showgirl and Bridie O’Connor received Junior Showgirl for 2019. The Jackaroo and Jillaroo competition was popular this year with Ruby Arnott and Jack Smyth winning 11-13 years, Annie Pull and Oscar Townsend taking out 7-10 years and Sophie Payne and Harry Maynard winning the 4-6 years category.

The Cobley Pavilion was full to the brim with some amazing entries including Lego, homemade cakes, biscuits and slices, fresh eggs, lemons and oranges, cut flowers, art-works and photography and a few entries even received special prizes to participate at The Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2020.

The Animal Nursery had some cute pig-lets, puppies, chicks and even a baby emu which was popular with the children. The Horse Show events had great entry numbers with the Show Arena full on both Friday and Saturday.

President Stuart Gavin and his hardworking committee should be commended on a fantastic show that the whole Canowindra community enjoyed. Thanks must also go to the local sponsors and businesses who support the Canowindra Show each year.
