News from Canowindra High School … Principal’s News

25 March, 2014 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

It was a sea of orange in the playground last Friday with most of our students and staff joining in the acknowledgement of Harmony day and the celebration of the national day against bullying and violence. The Year 12 students did an exceptional job overseeing the re-launch of BOB activities and our students were truly focused on the strong messages given by them and our visiting performer E-mann.

The follow up presentation from the Black Dog Institute was equally impressive and our students once again astounded with their respectful and responsible behaviour. Thank you to all the students and staff who participated and helped make the day a real success. Parents are also reminded that a similar evening will be held by the Black Dog Institute for parents and community members at the end of the month.

This week we will be undertaking interviews for the permanent appointment of the new Deputy Principal. I would like to

acknowledge the contributions of Mr Andrew Holmes and Mr Rod Jones who have represented the parents and staff respectively on the interview panel. Mr Paul Bullock was also a member of the panel representing the Director of Public Schools. I will announce the successful candidate in next week’s newsletter.

Why active kids are less likely to be cyberbullied. We all know that getting kids off the computer and outside to play is important for their health. Researchers have found kids who do extracurricular activities tend to be safer online, encounter less cyberbullying, and are more resilient to harassment if it occurs. CONGRATULATIONS to Jamie Austin on being last week’s merit draw winner and recipient of the Canteen Voucher.
