LEAGUE TAG
Cargo defeated the Tigresses to the tune of 48-8. The girls played well the first half but Cargo had more of the ball and Canowindra had to defend most of the second half. Players player was Jess Perry and 3 points, 2 Kathy Davis, 1 Alisha Earsman.
FIRST GRADE
The Tigers failed to control the ball in the first half allowing Cargo to gain the upper hand. First points went to Cargo with 2 tries to lead 8-0.
The Tigers had their chances but continued to give the ball back to the opposition.
The Tigers hit back with tries to Salisie and Brydon to level the scores at 8 all with 13 minutes to the break. Canowindra gained more composure in their play and the upper hand over Cargo’s big pack. Entertaining play from the Tigers saw them in Cargo’s twenty with a clever pass to Steve Tahere scoring near the post which was converted for the Tigers to have a 14-8 lead at half time.
The second half was a more polished performance with Canowindra’s pack wearing down Cargo’s defence for the Tigers backs to take advantage. A try to Tim Roberts pushed the score to 18-8 and shortly after a try to Aaron Earsman from a short ball extended the lead to 24-8.
Cargo fought back with a converted try after poor discipline from the Tigers to narrow the gap to 10 points.
The Tigers finished the stronger of the two sides with a try to Taufao under the post for the Tigers to hold a commanding lead 30-14. This was an entertaining game of rugby league and was more intense than the scores indicated with bruising defence.
The officials of the game should be congratulated on their performance for a job well done.
Montrose House Players Player went to Fraser Ryder, Best and fairest and 3 points to Aaron Earsman, 2 to Harry Whatman,1 each to Brydon Hughes, Blaisé Marsh, Frazer Ryder. There were a number of players pushing for points and that is pleasing to see coming to the pointy end of the year.
Next week the Tigers travel to Molong who are 2nd on the ladder and a tough encounter is assured.
The Club would like to congratulate Brydon and Tahlia on their engagement during the week.
