Tyrone Rawlings, Year 7
Year 7 have been developing their practical skills, using all sorts of means and methods to separate mixtures. As an aid to developing their understanding of the particle theory of matter, they have also been doing the ‘pop’ test and ‘crushing cans’. In science, students use problem solving, higher order thinking skills, practical skills. They are awed and amazed when shown what science can do, achieve and lead.

8A Science has been very busy finishing their work on the ‘Energy’ topic, looking at the impact of technology in our society. Students could choose one of four topics to base their research on: Robotics, Bionics, Renewable energy, Electric cars and bikes.
The class has been working diligently on developing
their researching skills in order to create an accurate and interesting resource. Many phenomenal posters are rolling in today showing what a super group of students they are!
9B Science are finishing their work on ‘Motion’. Some brain straining work on the three laws of motion proposed by Isaac Newton is being broken up with the famous egg drop challenge. Students have been madly plotting how they save their egg from doom when it is dropped from the balcony to the ground below. They have very limited resources and must think very carefully about the dynamics of the motion to successfully save their egg. The question that everybody is asking: to parachute or crumple zone?
Year 11 biologists recently set off for the banks of the Belubula River to conduct an ecological study. They were collecting data to use for their first assessment task which involves using the sampling techniques learnt in Biology.
Tim Middleton Yr 12 Physics
They completed a transect diagram to measure the distribution of plants on the river bank. Quadrat samples were also done to gauge the abundance of plant species in the immediate area. The mission was achieved with many laughs and a celebratory zooper dooper upon our return to base camp.
