Canowindra Country Education Foundation Delivers Prize

19 December, 2018 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The students in Miss Toovey’s Year5/6 class at Canowindra Public School were awarded their prize of $250 last week for winning the Under 12’s Best Mockumentary at the recent Cano Mocs and Docs Film Festival.

The Film Festival was held by the Canowindra Country Education Foundation that was established to provide much needed financial assistance and support to local youth to help them achieve their education, training and vocation aspirations. The foundation recognises that the cost of rural students pursuing their goals is often much greater than those of their metropolitan counterparts and that sometimes these costs can be prohibitive.

Barry Burn a member of the CEF Canowindra branch was proud to present the prize to the Canowindra Public School students. The class have spent their prize money on an end of year class party, with the remainder to be donated back to the school to possibly purchase some new bean bags.

Applications are now open for the next round of grants and all ages are encouraged to apply. Simply visit the website www.cef.org.au/foundations/canowindra and apply, applications close on February 28 2019. 2018 Grant winners were Amelia Holmes who received a scholarship to help her buy books and supplies for her university course and Jason Whittle, who received funding to buy a starter kit for shearing including a hand piece, combs and cutters.

Both Amelia and Jason were very appreciative of the support from the CEF.

There will be another Cano Mocs and Docs in 2019 so put your thinking cap on to create your very own Documentary or Mockumentary.
