Last Friday the Infants students (Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2) of St Edward’s Primary School in Canowindra were treated to an excursion to the Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo. The Phoenix caught up with students Oscar and Fergus Townsend who were happy to write the below story about their day.
On Friday all of St Edwards Infants got up really early to get on a bus and go to Dubbo Zoo.
We got to the zoo, we went to Monkey Island to watch the monkeys play while we ate our fruit. Lucky there was lots of water or those monkeys would have snatched our bananas. We then started our long walk around the zoo. We saw hippos, zebras, meerkats, otters, water buffalos, lions, tigers, koalas, tortoises and giraffes.
Oscar’s favourite animals were the elephants, there was even a brand new baby elephant, he was really adorable. Fergus thought the Bongos were really
cool, they had long sharp horns and funny stripes on their body.
After we ate our lunch with the noisy Siamangs we went to the Billabong Camp where Zoo Keeper, Kirsty, told us interesting facts about the animals and showed us some lizards.
Did you know that elephants are the only mammals that can’t jump? And we both thought the Two Headed Shingled Back Lizard was pretty awesome,
We then got back on the bus for the long drive home. We had a very very fun day at the zoo and learnt lots of new facts about the animals.
