Canowindra Receives Funding Thanks To ArtsOutWest

7 February, 2018 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Arts OutWest has announced the seven successful local projects in the 2018 round of the Country Arts Support Program (CASP). Seven local groups will share $17,458 in funding for small arts projects. Across the NSW Central West there was again a strong demand for the NSW government’s annual grants program with 11 community organisations requesting a total of $29,220 in funds. Applicants could apply for up to $3,000, with any not-for-profit group eligible.

The Project funded for Canowindra is for a Mural to be painted at the Canowindra Skate Park. Young people from Canowindra High School in conjunction with a Community Artist will facilitate and paint an attractive mural on the wall of the skate park shelter located on the corner of Rodd St and Brown’s Avenue Canowindra in early 2018. The total of the grant was $2,800.

Other Funded projects in 2018 will be spread across the region and include:
• Multiple workshops over four weekends in Grenfell for the month of July.
• A three part residency in Bathurst to develop one act plays across the Central West.
• Author event in Forbes with Moree-based Nicole Anderson.
• Mural and art making in Lake Cargelligo.
• Supporting the inclusive Luminosity workshop program in Orange.
• Waste 2 Art focused music workshops and performances in Lithgow with local youth disability groups.

“These seven projects offer exciting opportunities to communities, arts makers and audiences in the region. They also provide employment opportunities to local artists and arts workers,” Arts OutWest Executive Director Tracey Callinan said.

Bringing these seven funded projects to life will be around 40 local volunteers contributing more than 600 volunteer hours. The projects will also make use of in-kind goods and services from local councils, businesses and community groups. Arts OutWest is the regional arts development organisation, servicing the 11 local government areas of Bathurst Region, Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Forbes, Lachlan, Lithgow, Oberon, Orange, Parkes and Weddin.
