White Ribbon Day Community March

15 November, 2017 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Next Friday 24th November there will be a White Ribbon Day March conducted down Gaskill St around 2pm. The road will be closed to traffic. The White Ribbon campaign is a means to speak out and act to stop violence against women, and to safely and effectively challenge the attitudes and behaviours of a minority of men who use or condone violence against women.

The march is put on to support those who have been victims of domestic violence and to create awareness that domestic violence is happening, and as communities we can help families by being aware and know the avenues of support.

All members of the community are invited to come to the march to raise awareness about violence against women and children, and to promote healthy respectful relationships. All participants are asked to assemble at the corner of Ryall Street and Gaskill Street, next to the Junction Hotel at 1.45pm. The March will commence at 2pm down Gaskill Street, finishing at Memorial Park.

Kirrily Dear from Run Against Violence who ran from Broken Hill through Canowindra to Sydney earlier on in the year will be at the march as the guest speaker and will also present the medals to the Canowindra team who virtually ran together to support Kirrily Dear and her crew on her amazing and inspiring journey.

White Ribbon Australia is part of a global movement to end men’s violence against women. The organisations focus is to make women’s safety a man’s issue too. Come take a stand in the community next Friday.
