Cherry Blossom Festival Coming To Cowra

13 September, 2017 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The Sakura Matsuri is a major event on Cowra’s tourism calendar on Saturday 23 September, celebrating the birth of spring. It attracts performers from across Australia and around the world. Locals, Australian and International visitors alike have the opportunity to experience traditional elements of Japanese culture. Sakura at the Cowra Japanese Garden is celebrated annually in September when the cherry blossoms are at their peak. The cherry blossoms usually continue to flower up until mid-October.

This year festivities will include Cultural Activities such as Ikebana Display, Tai Chi Demonstrations, Tea Ceremony and Bonsai
Demonstrations. There will also be a Cultural Stage showcasing Torsion, Taiko Drummers, Japanese Singers, Tai Chi, Japanese Dance and Sakura choir. You will also be able to see martial arts in action including Karate, Aikido and Sumo Wrestling. There will also be many varieties of market stalls on offer or you can watch a Bonsai demonstration in the Bonsai House or Ikebana Display & Demonstration.

Admission fee is $20 for Adults, $18 for Seniors, $15 for Children or a Family for $60. The gates will open from 8.30am – 5pm with entertainment running between 10am – 4pm. For more information contact the Cowra Japanese Garden & Cultural Centre 02 6341 2233.
