Been here since only February
Not even had an anniversary
For us
But it won’t be long
And I’ll look back
And it will soon have been a year
Since we snuggled down
In the Fish-Fossil town.
I’m certainly not a founder
Of this old town Canowindra
Just a blow-in or observer you might
say
But from what I’ve felt so far
Of the local hospitality
I’d really like to stay
I’ve met some local chaps and ladies
Baristas, mechanics and some tradies
The local doctor and chiropractor
But I’ve yet to drive a tractor
Or to fly a hot balloon
I’m ignorant you see
Of looking after land
Quarter acre is as much as I have kept
So if I start to talk too much
You can stop me in my tracks
You can do an intercept
And correct me, to straighten up the facts
Right now before I proceed
To FD I’d like to pay respect
A man I’ve never met,
Who’s already at his rest
Just read his work on Chuckin’ Rocks
Some would say he’s one of the best
So on this museum anniversary
Celebration of local Historical Society
I’d like share a bit, a trace
Of what I’ve learned about the place
So I’ll tell a bit about our journey
Quite recent past, you might say modern history
About some local reading that I’ve done
Some bits gleaned from the museum
That I’ve only been to once
