Escape To Everywhere This Book Week

23 August, 2017 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

It is one of every child’s favourite weeks at school – the annual Children’s Book Council of Australia Book Week which is being held this week at schools in and around Canowindra. It is a time when children and parents can get creative together and come up with a costume to wear to school. The theme this year is Escape to Everywhere so the costume possibilities are endless!

The Canowindra Pre-School children were treated each day this week, with a different member of the local community coming into read a story. On Monday local postman Brian Stevenson or “Gunna” as he is known around town came in and read “The Jolly Postman” and on Tuesday Tommy Jeffs entertained the kids dressed as a pirate reading “Tim and Ted and the Pirates”.

The Canowindra Public School will celebrate book week and the importance of reading with a Book Parade tomorrow Friday 25th August at 1.50pm at the school hall. Children can wear their outfit to school if they are comfortable or alternatively teachers can help students into their outfits before the parade.

Next week on Wednesday 30th August the Canowindra community will come together for the annual community reading day to be held at St Edwards Primary School. There will be activities, book readings and a BBQ lunch for all students. There will be children attending from St Edward’s Primary School, Canowindra Public School, Canowindra High School and Family Day Care.

The visiting author is Sue Whiting. Sue is a former primary school teacher who loves sharing her passion for story and storytelling,
and reading and writing with people of all ages. Her best-selling books include The Firefighters and A Swim in the Sea and her latest book Platypus was a CBCA 2016 Notable Book. The whole community is welcome to come along.
