Canowindra CWA’s Sunday Serenade

16 August, 2017 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

The Canowindra CWA held their yearly Serenade on Sunday afternoon at 2pm at All Saints Anglican Church. The afternoon of wonderful songs, recitals, acts and music co-ordinated by Ros Bullock, was certainly a great way to spend a Sunday. Over 70 people attended the event, which was followed by a country style afternoon tea provided by the wonderful ladies of the Canowindra CWA.

The funds raised from the afternoon will go towards a scholarship for aspiring performers from the Canowindra community to extend their musical education. The scholarship is awarded to candidates who must audition before a panel who consider the musical ability of the candidates and the benefit they might achieve by being awarded the scholarship.

Applications for the 2018 scholarship are now open and will close on Friday 27th October. On Sunday, last year’s winner of the scholarship Macy Boland sang Amazing Grace and Second-hand White Baby Piano. Macy said that she had benefited from the extra training the scholarship had enabled her to receive and this had built up her confidence and given her direction to become a music teacher.

Bill Harrison, a half scholarship winner from last year performed with his teacher Dave Etty on guitar and George Johnston performed on clarinet as a soloist with his father Steve Johnston. The CWA & Friends Choir despite being severely depleted with members being
sick, sang a number of songs and there was a funny skit performed by the Beanshed Drama School led by Nerida Cuddy “Cell Phone Zombies”.

Others to perform were Max Harris, Iris, Nina and Raphael Cuddy, Maisie Harrison and Julia Wright. The newly formed Cowra Wellbeing Choir made their first appearance led by Mary-Ann Wright who said that singing is good for the soul.
