With an apology for the use of quotations it must be accepted that in Shakespeare’s words “the evil that men do lives after them, the good is oft interred with their bones”, this is now so true for the National Party over its failure to support Local Government Councils in rural, regional and remote NSW, which are currently fighting against their proposed forced amalgamations, the instigation of the NSW, Baird Coalition Government and supported by two relevant National Party Ministers, Troy Grant and Paul Toole.
Hypocrisy is never forgotten, thus, the political and very successful intervention, which saved Walcha Shire Council from forced amalgamation, is a “slap in the face” to the other Councils and people unjustly being force-amalgamated and fighting a “David and Goliath” battle in the NSW Land and Environment Court.
Repercussions are already being seen as there is a likelihood that the long held National’s seat of Orange will be lost in the up and coming by-election, caused as a result of Andrew Gee’s moving to the seat of Calare. His move is a sad loss for both the party and people of the Central West, in NSW state politics.
Dissatisfaction is growing with the current NSW State Government, and this is exacerbated by the: cancellation of half of the LG Council Elections, which were due on 10 September; forced amalgamation of Councils; the greyhound debacle; rising electricity prices; and the proposed sale of NSW electricity poles and wires.
