The soggy conditions didn’t dampen the spirits at the Woodstock Show with everything still going ahead on Sunday. Governor General, Sir Peter Cosgrove, officially opened the 70th year of the Woodstock Memorial Show, in gumboots and all.

Cowra Mayor Bill West said “The show is a fantastic tribute to Australian life and a personal tribute to our Governor General”. Local produce, arts and craft, wood chopping, livestock, horse events and the tractor pull were all stand out events and showcased the best of the region.

“It’s a celebration of unique qualities of rural life,“ said Mayor Bill West. Local brothers Luke and Kurt Tidswell cleaned up at this years Woodstock show with Kurt being awarded the perpetual trophy for best show Lamb and Luke received 3rd in the open class tractor and second in best-restored tractor.

A highlight of this years show were the five members who received distinguished service medals for their hard work and continued involvement in the show. “Their recognition is long overdue,” said Mayor Bill West.

The Woodstock Show was a great day and shows the strong sense of community in rural villages and the very sense of volunteering and pitching in.
