February the 14th will be just like any other day for Jim Brown, of Cargo. After his morning jobs are done, Jim will travel from his home in Cargo over to Moyne to visit his wife of 64 years, Pearl. If his day isn’t too busy, sometimes Jim will make the trip to visit his adoring wife twice a day.
The Browns were married on October 1st 1949, after meeting when Pearl was just 17. On her parent’s request, they waited until Pearl was 21 to marry. They have since welcomed 7 children, 23 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren into their family.
Jim puts the success of his long marriage down to sorting out arguments straight away. When asked what advice he would give to newlyweds and other couples on Valentine’s Day, Jim says “Do as much as you can together, don’t get too wild and trust each other, it’s a very important thing.”
Just starting out on their journey together, Adam Wild and Rachelle Traves will spend their Valentine’s Day working together at their business, then going out for dinner at the restaurant where Adam proposed.
After 4 years together, the couple are look- ing forward to marrying this September, saying the wedding “couldn’t come quickly enough.”
