PYTHONS GO DOWN TO COOTA

6 July, 2016 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

On Saturday the Canowindra Pythons hosted Cootamundra for the first time. Not sure what to expect from the visitors, the opening whistle had the Pythons defending strongly but they soon realised that Cootamundra were an experienced team and this was going to be a tough game.

Cootamundra were the first to score a try with a strong run from the inside centre close to the line. Todd Wyburn then scored a try for the Pythons, making it 7 all. However, Cootamundra reacted with two more tries before the Pythons managed to get one back, meaning they were still one try behind at half time.

During the second half Cootamundra continued to dominate the game, running in three more tries with Canowindra scoring a consolation try from Todd Wyburn. The final score of the game 42 Cootamundra 17 Pythons. Good games were had by Luke Watt at the back, constant in defence and attack as always and Dean Schaefer played well in the forwards. Three points went to Todd Wyburn, two points to Luke Watt, one point to Dean Schaefer. Players player went to Todd Wyburn.

Next week the boys travel to Temora which will be another tough game so be sure to show your support. The 16th July is a home game against Condo for the Pythons and is also the ladies, sponsors and members’ day. The theme of the day is ‘flower power’ so whether it’s a daisy headband, a floral dress or a cheeky rose in the lapel of a suit, get donned in flowers and enjoy a great day for all the family.
