Orange Region Farmers Market

6 February, 2014 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

2nd Saturday of the Month!

2nd Saturday of the Month! Discover & taste great regional produce

The Australian Farmers’ Markets Association (AFMA) is a voluntary organization convened in 2003 to create a networking entity committed to supporting the development and growth of best practice and sustainable farmers’ markets across Australia.

AFMA also provides helpful information to farmers seeking opportunities to sell their fresh produce directly to consumers through Australian farmers’ markets – and helps shoppers to locate their nearest farmers’ market.

The Orange Region Farmers’ Market is a predominantly fresh food market that oper- ates monthly (on the 2nd Saturday) at the Orange Showground, Agricultural Pavilion, Leeds Parade (May to October), or at the Northcourt behind Orange Visitors Centre (November to April).

The main aims of the markets are:

  • To support and stimulate the profitable trading and business growth of inde- pendent primary producers, hobby farm- ers, community and home gardeners, and associated produce value-adders.
  • To provide customers with regular sup- plies of high quality fresh food and access to improved nutrition.
  • To contribute to the economic and social capital of the Orange community, and to work in conjunction with the other Farmers’ Markets in the Central Ranges.

It’s a new season, so come and enjoy the best of summer produce from the region direct from the growers at the Orange Farmers Market 8th February from 8.30 til 12.30pm in the open space behind the Or- ange Art Gallery & Library cnr March & Peis- ley Streets, Orange or at the SHOWGROUND IF IT IS WET OR WET UNDER FOOT.

Come and see what the region has on offer, meet the producers and support local growers. A gold coin donation gets you through the gates.

Janelli Nursery

Doug & Elizabeth Dagg of Gooloogong have been at the helm of Janelli Nursery for over 16 years and love going to all the local markets. Janelli Nursery offers a wide range of plants and shrubs from ground covers to roses. Elizabeth is particularly conscious of ensuring customers do not plant anything that will succumb to the frost.

Greentree Gourmet Preserves

All products are made the old fashioned way by hand, with fine quality local and regional fruits. Over the years the product range has been extended to include approximately 26 varieties of jam, 6 marmalades, 4 jellies, 15 condiments and 10 varieties of bottled fruit – apricots, blueberries, blackberries, cherries, figs, gooseberries, peaches, pears, plums and sour (Morello) cherries. Beautiful ripe fruit is sealed in glass jars and placed in a special cooking unit for several hours at carefully controlled temperatures.

Jo Robson Catering

From private to corporate catering through to preservative free sauces, dressings and delicacies, Jo Robson has developed a range of services and products that will surely impress! Sticky toffee and chocolate sauce, caramelised onion and capsicum, asian dressing, wasabi mayonnaise, aioli and lemon, lime and ginger mayonnaise. She purchases the majority of her ingredients locally, including local pastured eggs and organic garlic grown on Mount Canobolas. She now stocks these mouth-watering dressings in our local stores; Trading Post, Gaskill Greens and Taste Canowindra. Enjoy! Visit her website jorobson.com
