Artists on the wing for 2014 Balloon Challenge

6 February, 2014 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

Hot Air Balloon Challenge

While multicoloured clusters of hot air balloons are rising and drifting over Canowindra in April the town will be staging its first art contest and exhibition celebrating the annual event.

The competition, with the creative theme “Flight,” is open to all artists within a 100 km radius of Canowindra and will be hosted as a $500 People’s Choice event at the River Bank Gallery from Saturday April 12.

It’ll run right through the Balloon Challenge and 17th Australian National Ballooning Championships from April 22 to 27.

Organisers are seeking local donations for an additional top award of at least $1,000 plus other prizes, with inXcess, publishers of the Phoenix, already contributing $250. The full prize list will be announced as the event approaches.

Entry forms are available from the River Bank Gallery – phone Cathy O’Brien on 0498 729 947 or 6344 2778 — or via email from earthlighttv@iprimus.com.au.

Artists can enter a maximum three art- works, and the fee for each is $24 — the cost of a 20×16-inch canvas which must be pur- chased from the gallery. Entries close April 7.
