Canowindra High School students and staff showed their support for the Cargo to Grenfell walk, by walking a lap of the school oval.
Walkers in the 8th annual C2G set off from Cargo this morning, 14th March on the 96km trek to Grenfell. Walkers will arrive in Grenfell on Sunday 16th March.
Back in 2016, Toby Barron and Derek Robinson came up with the idea to walk from one regional town to another to raise money for a local football team. They soon realised it had the potential to have a positive impact on the surrounding towns by raising awareness of people suffering with mental health related issues.
“Each year, to see community members put their bodies to the test, all for a great cause is something special. I am only one person in millions but want to make a difference and know that we have definitely helped people improve their wellbeing since the events inception in 2017,” said Toby.
This year will see 35 participants completing either one, two or all three days of the walk. The group hopes to raise $15,000 for the Head Strong Foundation: a not-for-ptofit charity organisation dedicated to providing mental health resources to regional and remote communities of Australia. The fundraising total is currently sitting at $7,015.
