With just over 2 weeks until lift off for the 2018 Canowindra International Balloon Challenge the excitement is building. Last week at the media launch Chairperson Graham Kerr was thrilled to announce that the Hummingbird from the Balloon Capital of the World, Albuquerque will be returning to the Balloon Capital of Australia, Canowindra again this year.
The Hummingbird will be joined by some of his friends “Kermie” the Frog, “Nudie” and also a little red heart shaped balloon. All of these special shape balloons will not only hum across our skies but will be lit up at the Cabonne Country Balloon Glow on Saturday 28th April to be held at the Canowindra Showground.
The number of volunteers for the event is growing daily with a group of wonderful students from Canowindra High School, all in the Duke of Edinburgh scheme having volunteered again this year to be one of the Target Teams for the balloon competition.
Balloons will be flying from Saturday 21st April until Sunday 29th April launching each morning from 6-6.30am and again at 3.30-4.00pm. The flights can take up to two hours so there is plenty to watch.
After the mass balloon launch spectators are encouraged to chase the balloons to watch them drop their markers and then land.
