Central West Throwers shone at the Country Championships held in Wollongong last weekend, with 12 athletes competing in Hammer, Discus, Javelin and Shot Put all under the watchful eye of coach Ernie Shankelton.
Canowindra was well represented by Alex Rice and Emily Thomas over the weekend. Alex won Gold and broke the Championship record in U15 Hammer Throw with 39.32m, he also won Gold in the U15 Discus with 39.34m. Emily Thomas won Gold in the U20 Hammer Throw, throwing a personal best 45.36m. Emily also competed in Discus finishing 4th and Javelin picking up the Bronze Medal.
