Vinnies shops have been the home of treasure for 100 years and raise vital funds to support people in need.
Sales from items sold in Vinnies shops are used to enable services run by the St Vincent de Paul Society which support people experiencing hardship.
To celebrate 100 years of Vinnies, customers can visit participating Vinnies Shops from 24 October to 6 November to find the golden tagged treasure items. Every transaction made at a Vinnies NSW Shop during this period will be eligible to go in the draw to win one of several big-ticket items, simply scan the QR code at the Vinnies NSW Shop point of sale once you’ve made a purchase.
Mary Finn, tells the story of our own Vinnies: In 1972, a centre was established in what was previously The Canowindra Star building. In the early in the 1970s, there was both a senior and junior conference of St Vincent de Paul Society members. The junior conference continued into the 1990s, until the school closed its high school classes.
Alan Carroll, along with members of both conferences, were the force behind this wonderful centre and friendly shop. In its early days, it was the students at St Edwards who volunteered their time at the shop.
In 1991, the shop moved to its present-day site in Gaskill St. The shop and new extensions were opened by the then State President, Robert Fitzgerald, in July 1991.
“It has been my privilege to speak with some of the former members, in particular the students who volunteered at the shop, recalling what fun they had during this time. As well as how they enjoyed supporting others through efforts for the St Vincent De Paul Society NSW,” Mary explains.
So pop into the Canowindra store from 24th October to 6th November to celebrate 100 years of Vinnies.
