The last 100 Mile Dinner in Gaskill Street was in 2012 and now after two years of very successful 100 Mile Lunches at the Age of Fishes Museum, “The Dinner” will be back in the main street for a Saturday evening banquet on March 7th. canowindra@home team members Trudi and Fumie are excited for the new challenges of the event. “We held it for four years in Gaskill Street on a Monday night and felt we needed a change. The Lunches on a Sunday have been great fun but the charm of our beautiful main street and the opportunity to hold it on a Saturday has lured us back” says Trudi. Fumie got involved by being a volunteer and has now become the “best secretary in the world for the canowindra@home team!” according to Trudi.
“Ideally we’d like to try and get some tourists interested so they spend time and money in the town” says Fumie, “there’s lots of new and wonderful produce in this area, they’re even making chocolate in Mudgee! All of the food at the dinner will be made from fresh, seasonal produce sourced from within the 100 mile radius.”
The five course dinner will be prepared by the talented chefs of Restaurant 9inety2wo from Bathurst, one of whom is Canowindra local Ben Melluish. Trudi feels that our town can claim this dinner as their own and should be proud of what it represents. “This is Canowindra’s event,” she says “it showcases what our community can produce and brings people to our town.”
Tickets went on sale last week and are selling out fast, but there’s another, very rewarding way you can be involved, by volunteering. The canowindra@home volunteer group has been running events, dinners, lunches and markets, showcasing the regions produce since 2000 , making them 15 years old next year. Certainly something to celebrate! “There’s something for everyone on the job front” says Fumie, “it’s such a big day, even a few hours of your time can be a massive help!
