Members of various sporting groups in Canowindra received news from Sam Farraway MP on Tuesday, that the Canowindra Sports Oval will be receiving almost two million dollars in grant money.
Sports in Canowindra received a massive boost on Tuesday morning, when NSW Nationals Upper House MP, Sam Farraway announced that Canowindra Oval would be receiving $1,826,747 of government funds to construct a new amenities block and spectator seating.
“This project will enable Canowindra to host events on a larger scale which will enable local clubs to invite others from around the Central West region to play at the oval – having a flow-on effect throughout the region and the local economy,” Sam said.
The news was welcomed by members of the Canowindra Sports Trust and representatives from various local sporting clubs who attended the event.
President of the Canowindra Sports Trust, Andrew “Pully” Pull, praised the grant explaining, “The old building is very derelict and certainly needs an upgrade. The new building will have change rooms, a medical room, kiosk area, seating and a multipurpose room. It will be a boost. It will benefit both winter and summer sports, but particularly winter.”
Brian Swords, president of the Junior Rugby League Club is looking forward to how these facilities will improve sport in Canowindra saying, “It will be key to us facilitating our games on a week to week basis. This new facility will bring a lot to the town for all sporting groups. We have a thriving junior rugby union competition and we host games here. The new facility will give us a basis to attract and facilitate bigger games from Sydney clubs who are looking to support the bush.”
