Ladies Golf

5 August, 2015 By Canowindra Phoenix Editor

July 22 had bitter weather but five brave pairs contested the first round of the Foursomes Championships, with three ladies playing nine holes while at the same time trying to dodge the sleet.

The highlight of the day was another Nearest the Pin on the 5th at 150cm by Rozzie. Congratulations to her and her partner Helen Kemper who won the daily prize and the first round of the championships. Round 2 of the championships saw all five pairs turn up again hoping the sunshine would
improve the golf, and improve it did with Annette and Eileen winning the daily prize. They are now only one shot behind the leaders Ros and Helen who are on 195. Rhonda and Helen C are also closing the gap and the pressure is
on the ladies for the decider.

The Eileen Garnsey Memorial Shield match play final will be between Helen Kemper and Eileen Wilson sometime within the next two weeks. Thelma and Marea had a wonderful time at the Far West Rose Bowl Tournament held at
Warren last week. Since some greens were under water, the course was reduced to 12 holes.

The Grenfell ladies were the eventual winners on the day and the Canowindra ladies congratulated them on the fantastic job they did in every aspect of the event. The Women’s Mountains Meeting will be hosted at Blackheath, Leura, Wentworth Falls & Lithgow, October 19th – 22nd, entries are open now. Planning is also underway for their Canowindra Tournament on Thursday 10th September.
